| If you decide to protect your family yourself, you would become a vigilante. Vigilantism is when people take illegal actions to correct what they see as a legal or moral wrong. Often vigilantes have public support and sometimes they even have the de facto support of the legal authorities. Nevertheless, people engaged in this type of movement are acting outside the law and can be considered outlaws themselves.
