In September of 1950, Lt. Charles R. Propst was a Navy doctor serving with the First Marine Division in Kobe, Japan. The First Marine Division was composed of both veterans who had fought their way through the Pacific during World War II and new recruits who had been called up after the North Korean invasion of South Korea. The First Marine Division sailed to South Korea to participate in the Inchon landing on September 15, 1950 and remained on the peninsula until April, 1955. Lt. Propst served with the marines until he was rotated home in July, 1951. He participated in the Inchon assault, the landing at Wonsan and evacuation of Hungnam, and served in the defensive line around Pusan. These photographs chronicle his military service. |
