The 1900s

The turn of the century marked the beginning of the Edwardian Era and an extravagantly feminine look in women's fashion took hold. Fabrics became lighter, skirts were worn closer to the hips, and sleeves became smaller. As well as lace and chiffon, designers used soft, satin materials that draped the body. While the overall style became simpler, gowns of this era were often elaborately adorned. These three dresses from the early 1900s are each unique yet all reflect the move toward a simpler more feminine style.
